Spring in the City: Exploring New York City’s Outdoor Attractions

Bryant Park

With cherry blossoms blooming in Central Park and tulips glowing from the sidewalks of Fifth Avenue, spring has arrived to New York in full swing. In honor of this splendid season, we have compiled some of the best NYC outdoor attractions to enjoy throughout the city, not far from Hotel Chandler.

Central Park

No trip to NYC is complete without a visit to Central Park. With the trees budding, the birds chirping, and the days getting longer, the time is perfect for a picnic on Sheep Meadow or a row about the pond from Loeb Boathouse. Take a stroll, sunbathe a bit or pick your sport and go for it.

Prospect Park

Easily accessible by subway, bus or car, Prospect Park features miles of nature trails for hiking, birdwatching and experiencing NYC like never before.

Take a stroll on this elevated railway, which has been transformed into a public park on Manhattan’s West Side. The park boasts lush horticulture, various artworks, seasonal food vendors and unique views of the Hudson and NYC skyline. The High Line runs between Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.

Flea Markets

Some of the best shopping isn’t in the flagship stores you’ll find on Fifth Avenue—it’s at the flea market. During spring, the city bustles with activity at numerous flea markets, including the Hester Street Fair and the Bedford Village Market and Brooklyn Flea.

Movies in the Park

Bring a blanket and a bottle of wine to enjoy outdoor movie screenings in a variety of locations, including rooftops, waterside and parks. From Bryant Park to Brooklyn Bridge Park, cinema sizzles in the city. View a full list of outdoor movie screenings here.

Outdoor Summer Concerts

From Bryant Park and Lincoln Center to Prospect and Central Parks, there are numerous musical performances (many outdoors and many free) throughout the summer. View a full list of concerts here.
